ROGER WILLIAM JOHNSON
Roger Johnson was born on March 8, 1938, in Fort Thompson, South Dakota, to parents Delwyn and Esther (Hanson) Johnson. He has two sisters, Margaret Keating and Marilyn Ford, and one brother, Robert Johnson (died February 7, 2007).
Roger graduated from the University of Idaho in 1961 with a commission in the U.S. Navy. After completing Navy pilot training he flew transports for the Military Air Command out of California. His last year of active duty was spent as an instructor in Corpus Christi, Texas. He completed an additional 14 years in the Naval Reserves, retiring as Commander. He was employed as a commercial airline pilot for Frontier Airlines through 1986 and then with Continental Airlines until his retirement in 1998.
Roger married Bobbe Raustadt in October, 1961, in Pensacola, Florida. Roger and Bobbe have three children - Erica Hastert, Jennifer Johnson and Kirk Johnson - and four grandchildren - Morgan Steele, Nick Larsen, Wyatt Weiss and Windsor Johnson.
After Roger's retirement from the airlines, he worked for Winter Park Ski Resort as a lift operator and also for Columbine Lake Country Club in Grand Lake, Colorado.
Roger was passionate about the outdoors and built a cabin on Shadow Mountain Lake that he and his family visited regularly. Roger enjoyed skiing, fishing, hiking, antique cars, history, reading, traveling and time with his friends and family.
Memorial donations can be made to Christ the Savior Lutheran Church or The Denver Hospice.
The burial will take place Tuesday morning, April 1, at 9:00 at Fairmount Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, 1092 South Nome Street, Aurora, Colorado.
