Ronald Brewster Atchison was born on March 2, 1948 in Norwalk Connecticut to William and Helen Atchison. He grew up back east, living in both Massachusetts and Connecticut. He was the oldest of three children, with two younger sisters, Heather and Holly. Ron was very proud of his roots and where he came from.
Having been out west before, to Wyoming, he decided to come to Colorado to attend Colorado State University. He graduated from CSU with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Physiology. It was in Anatomy Class at CSU, in 1972, that Ron met Marie Romano. Two years later, in June of 1974 Ron and Marie were married. Ron bravely became an "Italian by marriage" husband. Ron and Marie became residents of Arvada Colorado, where they still reside today.
Ron earned his Paramedic Certification at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood in 1979. He was then hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Englewood. He later was promoted to Driver/Operator/Engineer and spent 26 years fighting fires and saving lives. Ron was a dedicated firefighter and always proud to serve in any way he could. This was a testament to the person Ron was. He had a heart that had the capacity to love and care for others, that was unparalleled to most.
Ron belonged to an Antique Fire Truck Club and tinkered on his own antique fire truck for many years. He also participated as a motorcycle marshall for the Coors Classic Bicycle Race five summers in a row, from 1983 through 1987. Ron also loved fly fishing and camping. He and Marie were avid hikers and snowshoers. They proudly completed many fourteeners in Colorado. They also hiked a multitude of the trails throughout Colorado. Everything Ron and Marie did was as a team. They loved spending time together and their deep love of one another was evident to all who met them.
Besides his wife Marie, Ron is survived by three children: Matthew Atchison of Henderson, Kelleen Tomaselli (Fred) of Denver and Parker Atchison of Arvada. Ron was the most involved dad and his children are left with beautiful memories. He gave endless amounts of love and support to all his children. This family grew together with countless camping trips, fun filled vacations, and most importantly, having Sunday family dinner together every week. Ron is also survived by his sister, Holly Magna of Niantic Connecticut, niece Emma Magna and nephew Sam Magna. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Helen, and his sister Heather.
