Ronald Craig Thomas, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, at Swedish Medical Center, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family and friends. Born on July 16, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa, Ronald lived a life marked by service, compassion, and a profound appreciation for the beauty of the world around him.
A man of varied talents and interests, Ronald dedicated five years to serving as a state patrol officer in Colorado, a role that he cherished deeply as one of his proudest accomplishments. He found immense fulfillment in helping others, displaying a kind and loving nature paired with a keen sense of humor that endeared him to those around him. After his tenure in law enforcement, he seamlessly transitioned to a career as a postal worker, from which he retired in 1986, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and hard work.
Ronald’s academic journey included some college studies, reflecting his commitment to personal growth and learning. His military service in the Army further exemplified his dedication to his country, embodying the values of honor and integrity throughout his life.
In his quieter moments, Ronald found joy in the embrace of nature. An avid outdoorsman, he reveled in fishing, camping, and meticulously tying fishing flies—a skill that reflected both his patience and artistry. He treasured the simple pleasures of life, including long walks with his beloved dog, Buffy. Reading and traveling were also passions that enriched his life, providing him with stories and experiences to share with family and friends.
Ronald's love for his family was boundless. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vickie Thomas, and his sons, Ronald Craig Thomas Jr., Matthew Wade Thomas, and Alonso Jason Martinez, alongside a host of nephews and other relatives and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
He joins in eternal rest his parents, John and Ethel Thomas, and his sister, Karen Phannenstiel, who are surely embracing him once more in the serenity beyond.
