Ronnie Alfonzo Martinez, Sr., age 67, passed away on January 13, 2019 at home after a long illness. He was born in Denver, Colorado and lived in the Denver area all of his life.
He attended and graduated West High School. For most of his life, he worked as a brick mason foreman, and received many awards and commendations for his craftsmanship. The Cherry Hills Community Church, the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, the Cherry Creek Mall, and portions of the University of Colorado Hospital were among many of the prominent buildings that feature his fine work.
In his life, he was blessed by many good friendships and by close family relationships as well. He loved spending time with friends and family, camping, skiing, boating and hosting gatherings. He especially loved to cook and enjoy life with loved ones, and was often the life of the party. He could always be counted on for the best jokes, and his large and contagious laugh could be heard above others, as he enjoyed time with them.
In his spare time, he participated in and enjoyed the Hot Rod and Classic Car community, and was often seen with his bright red 1928 Ford Model A two door sedan at area car shows smiling, chatting and enjoying the work of other car owners. In earlier years, he built into the lives of children in the area by coaching The Bear Valley Phantoms and the Bear Creek Bears. Throughout his life he was also an avid fan and supporter of the hometown team, the Denver Broncos.
He is survived by his wife Vera Guerrero Martinez and two stepdaughters, Yvette Federico (Mark) and Jennifer Flores (Billy Keller) and their families. He is survived also by two sons, Ronnie Martinez, Jr. and Marc Martinez (Torrie Westover), from his previous marriage to Judy Sheets Martinez. His grandchildren include Lana and Devon Martinez and Analise Gallegos; all whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by family members Alfonzo, Zoraida, Tony, Paul, Josie, Ernie and Lawrence Martinez, Adeline LeDoux, Lilly Rios and Priscilla Roybal. Survived by other family members Frances Martinez, Alfonso, Ray, Francisco and Terry Rios, Renee Zambrano, Nanette Sheets, Rita Sandoval and Stella Nowell, as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
