Rose Marie Petrelack of Aurora passed away on January 12, 2023, a little over a month before her 103rd birthday.
Rose was born in Simpson, PA on February 23, 1920, where she met and married Walter Sokolik and later moved to Passaic, NJ. She later divorced and then married Basil Petrelack and worked for Forstmann Woolen Company, Botany Mills and Ambassador Caterers in Passaic. Later she and Basil moved to Clifton, NJ and then finally to Aurora, CO in the 1970s.
Rose was very active in the Aurora Senior Center and received a commendation for her volunteer work there. She also enjoyed the many friends she met at the Center as well as in her Aurora neighborhood and was best known by all for her friendly personality, her Czech cooking and her home made Kahlua. On her 100th birthday, she was presented with a proclamation from the Mayor of Aurora declaring her birthday Rose Petrelack Day in Aurora. Rose was also a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Rose is survived by her three loving sons and their respective spouses: Walter Sokalick (Lois) of Mesa, AZ; Carl Sokolick of Montague, NJ; and Brian Sokolik (Grace) of Ft. Collins CO. She is also survived by the following additional members of her loving family: (1) her 6 grandchildren and their respective spouses: Keith Sokalick, Jeffrey Sokalick (Cindy), Karen McBroom (Tim), Christopher Sokolick (Debbie), Rachel Sokolik, and Aaron Sokolik; (2) her 9 great grandchildren and their respective spouses: Christopher (Holly), Nicholas, Kyle, Brittany, Kayte, Kate, David, Dyne, and Jordan; (3) her 4 great, great grandchildren Mia, Sebastian, Aiden and Maximus; and (4) her four nieces Mary Joscelyn, Elaine Duras, Betteanne Grant and Marianne Cavanaugh.
Rose is preceded in her death by her parents Frank Gorel and Anna Novorolsky, her brother William Tazic, and by her sisters Sophie Roche and Helen Duras.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 13120 East Kentucky Avenue, Aurora, CO, 80012.
A viewing and services will be held at Newcomer-East Metro Chapel, 190 Potomac Street, Aurora, Colorado beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday February 25. Burial and a burial service will be held at 11 a.m. on February 27 at Fort Logan National Cemetery where Rose will be interred with her husband Basil in Staging Area "A".
