Rose Ann Sanchez passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on December 12, 2021, in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was 101 years old.
Rose was born on September 7, 1920, in Mills, New Mexico to Trinidad and Lucinda McGrath. She was the 4th child of 11 children.
Rose came to Denver, Colorado with her family at the age of 2. She graduated from Manuel High School with high honors. She was captain of the schoolgirls basketball team and was awarded a full college scholarship to DU due to her grades and sports. She turned the scholarship down to help her family and go to work. This was a hard decision for her, but she knew her help was needed financially for the family.
On May 1, 1940, Rose married Eddie Trujillo. Her son, Don, was born from this union. On October 30, 1943, Rose married Alvin Sanchez. From this union, Paul, Anita, Jeanette, Jim, Ron, and Bernadette were born. After Alvin returned from serving in World War II, they moved to San Fransisco, California and lived there for three years. They returned to Colorado to raise their family.
At 32 years of marriage, Alvin died December 13, 1975, and Rose remained a widow. She worked as a nursery director for 17 years for Fitzsimon's army base in Aurora. She retired in 1985.
Rose's hobbies included sewing, cross stitch, and the love of reading books. She was always reading a book. She also sang with a Mariachi group with Alvin.
One of the highlights in Rose's life was getting to travel to the Holy Land. She spoke often of everything she got to see and experience there.
Rose was very involved at St Pius Church over the years and helped found the church. Her faith and relationship with Jesus were the center of her life. She shared her faith with many people and was a prayer warrior praying for others.
Rose loved time with family and friends. Her home and door were always open to others. She was happiest when she was around her family.
Rose was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanette, her grandson, Wayne, her brothers and sisters, Alvin, Johnny, Lawrence, Eloise, Louise, Mary, Josie, and Viola. She is survived by her sisters, Ruby and Virginia, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
We thank God for Rose's life, her love, her encouragement, her prayers, and her example with her faith in Christ. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
