Ruth Alvina Nylander

87, of Lakewood, passed away January 21, 2011. Ruth was born in Walcott, ND on a prairie farm. She was the eldest of seven children. She was educated at Richland County Grade School. She took correspondence high school courses through North Dakota Agricultural College. She finished high school at Wyndmere, ND. Her family worshipped in a country Lutheran Church. Ruth went on to St. Johns Nursing School in Fargo, ND, in 1941. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in January of 1945. She spent three years in the Army Nurse Corps and was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant in 1945. This was all at Fort Carson, CO. Ruth then worked at a Veterans hospital in Fargo, ND. She went on to study advanced nursing at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She met Hal at CU and they were married in December 1950. They had three children: Harold, Pam, and Debbie; they eventually enjoyed six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well. Ruth enjoyed photography with her husband, Hal. They enjoyed playing three tables of bridge for many years. They both belonged to Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church and were active in the Sons of Norway. Other interests included sewing, bowling, and gardening. Hal retired in 1971 and they took several trips with Ports of Call, and the occasional cruises and excursions to Mexico, Hawaii, Norway, and Alaska. They had always enjoyed automobile trips in the mountains around Denver, too. Donations may be made to the Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church. Reception immediately follows interment at Holy Shepherd Fellowship Hall.
