Ruth (Goodwyn) Lucas passed through heaven's gates on August 16, 2021. She was born October 9, 1930 to Ellen and Thomas Preston Goodwyn in Columbia, S.C. She was the youngest of 4 girls: Hattie, Thomasine, and Jessie. She went to high school in Charleston, W.V. There, she was a majorette in the school band, played basketball and was a cheerleader. Ruth eventually moved to Xenia, OH. where she met her best friend, Irene Lucas. Irene introduced Ruth to her brother Henry, they fell in love and married in 1955. She had 10 children, 5 girls and 5 boys. Andre, William, Delma, Sheri, Gina, Henry Jr., Kim, Alfred, Kathy, and Byron.
As a devoted wife to Henry, an Army soldier, Ruth, and the children had the opportunity to travel. Their travels included: Okinawa, Japan; Munich, Germany, Ft. Bragg, N.C. (twice), Salina, KS. (twice), Ft. Hood, TX. and Ft. Carson, CO. Upon Henry's retirement they moved to Aurora, CO. where she and Henry continued to raise the last 7 children and create lasting memories at 386 S. Troy St.
Ruth's favorite pastime was sports! She was a die-hard Denver Broncos season ticket holder for decades. Rain, Snow, freezing temperatures couldn't keep her away from "her Broncos"! She even had a room in the family home dedicated to "her Broncos". Respectfully known as "Mom's Bronco Room". She enjoyed watching Tiger Woods play golf and cheering for her children and their teammates as they participated in various sports. At times you would think Ruth had the football, bat, or baton as she sprinted down the field and bleachers. She was a power walker; played golf in a women's golf league, was chosen to be the block watch person, enjoyed playing bingo, and laughing with friends and relatives.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents (Ellen and Thomas), husband (Henry Sr.), 3 sisters (Hattie, Jessie, and Thomasine), Son (Andre), Daughter (Kim), Grandchildren (Darian, Brian, and Tre'), Sister-in-law, best friend and confidant, Irene (Lucas) Sellers.
Ruth is survived by her 8 children, William (Toni), Delma (Carl Philip), Sheri (Bob), Gina, Henry Jr., Alfred (Regina), Kathy (Jon), Byron (Tamie), 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
