Ruthann T. Deering

April 18, 1939 — February 14, 2021

Ruthann Deering "Grammy" of Lakewood, CO passed away on Sunday night, February 14th, 2021.

Ruthann is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harold Deering, three sons, Scott, Jeffrey, and Sean, three grandchildren Sarah, Chelsea, & Nicholas (April), and two great grandchildren, Brayden and Juliet.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Florence Miller, brothers Leonard, Dennis, and Douglas, and sisters Norma and Phyllis.

Born in Elk River, Minn. on April 18th, 1939, Ruthann attended St. Bernard's primary school and was overjoyed to attend and graduate from St. Joseph's Academy in 1957. She met Harold through the Catholic Youth Center in 1955, and they were married on October 1st, 1960. They regularly attended confession together on Saturdays before their dates, then frolicking through the night and ending their date together at mass on Sunday at 5am. Ruthann and Harold continue to maintain a friendship with their closest friends from high school.

In 1964, with two young boys in tow, Ruthi and Harry (as they were known to their friends in Minnesota) moved to Colorado from Minnesota, where she fell in love with the rocky mountains. She valued annual trips to see the aspens changing colors, and somehow never missed the Minnesota mosquitoes.

Being so far away from their Minnesota family, Ruthann and Harold bonded with new-found loved ones in Colorado and formed a family that has celebrated holidays together for 55+ years. Ruthann cherished hosting family for meals, holidays, and game nights, and she lovingly shared her home with any and all who entered. As the world's greatest grandma, she was eager to attend anything she could to cheer on her grand- and great-grandchildren, and to always encourage them in achieving their dreams.

Ruthann remained proudly devoted to her Catholic faith throughout her life, with a special devotion to Mary. She prayed the rosary and completed her Living Faith devotion daily. Her personal relationship with the Lord guided all she did and flowed through to all she met. Ruthann served as religious education coordinator at St. Anthony of Padua Church for 14 years. In 1992 she successfully completed Biblical School and received her certificate from the Archdiocese of Denver Catechetical School. This was one of Ruthann's proudest achievements.

Grammy was known for bringing the best baked goods to any event, be it school, sports, grandchildren, church, or even Grampy's coworkers. When she wasn't baking or cooking, during the spring and summer, Ruthann spent hours tending to her garden. Growing delicious vegetables and beautiful flowers, Grandma's garden always impressed. An astounding homemaker, Ruthann carried a strong work ethic and always wanted to be an active part of her community. She held several jobs concurrent with being wife, mother and homemaker extraordinaire, retiring from Target in December, 2007. She continued to volunteer with Community Ministries as long as her body supported her in doing so.

Ruthann is tremendously missed and loved.

The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions in Ruthann's name to Southwest Community Ministry: 1755 S. Zuni St. Denver, CO 80223 or https://comministry-denver.org/getting-involved/#donate
