Samuel Lewis

Samuel A. Lewis (Sam), 61, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Arvene Wayne Lewis. Sam is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jan, son, Jeff (Theresa), daughter, Kristin Lewis (K.C.), mother, Sadonna Lewis of Scottsbluff, NE, brother, Bill Lewis of Santa Ana, CA., and brother, Stephen Lewis of Scottsbluff, NE., grandsons Tyler, James and Sammy, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sam was born January 7, 1947, in Sidney, NE., and grew up in Morrill, NE. He graduated from Morrill High school and was active in basketball and 4H in school. He became a police officer at 21 years of age with Scottsbluff P.D. and served with Los Angeles County sheriff's Department as well as several departments in the Denver Metro Area before retiring from law enforcement. Just prior to his death, he was a Court Security Officer with the Denver Federal District courts. Sam enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, traveling and football. He was a great father and husband and will be sorely missed. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society .

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb 16, 2008 at 1:00 pm at the Newcomer Family Funeral Home- East Metro Chapel with inurnment to be held on Tuesday, Feb 19, 2008 at 10:30 am at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, NE (The date of inurnment was changed due to the cemetery being closed on Monday).
