Sandra Yvette Plummer, 79 of Aurora, Colorado transitioned on Sunday, December 27, 2020.
Born August 2, 1941 in Ocala, Florida, she was the daughter of James Williams and Vivienne Madison but was raised by her grandmother Alberta Banks and step grandfather Aaron Banks since she was 2 years old after the premature death of her mother. Soon after, the family moved to Denver, Colorado where she attended elementary school, graduated from Manual High School and attended University of Northern Colorado, formerly known as Colorado State College, to become a teacher.
It wasn't long when she felt the call to move to New York City where she attended City College of New York and met her first husband Eugene Plummer. They were married for seven years and had two children. After years of living in New York City as a single mother, Sandy decided that it would be best to raise her children in Colorado which was where she met her second husband, Calvin Jackson. They were married for 16 years and had one child together.
Sandy enjoyed being a mother and invested her time and energy into pouring into them Godly values and morals. She also made sure that they were exposed to other cultures and the arts. She was determined her children would graduate from college and two of them did. Sandy also enjoyed serving the community. She was the executive director of a family resource center in Aurora Public Schools for many years before she retired in 1996. She fought tirelessly for people in need and developed programs to help improve their lives. Sandy felt extreme joy when she had the opportunity to give to people whether it was of her time or things. She loved to read, attend plays, shop, dance, talk on the phone for hours, watch television and most of all spend time with her grandson.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Yvette Plummer Burkhalter, Sean Efrem Plummer and Girard Allen Jackson. She will also be fondly remembered by her grandson, Jahsun Maxie Collier.
Memorial service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Thursday at 2:00 with Apostle Phillip Smith, Jr. officiating.
