Sarah Jane Alford

September 24, 1933 — February 25, 2022

Sarah Jane Baker was born on September 24th, 1933, in Princeton, West Virginia, or as she so lovingly referred to it, "God's Country" and passed away February 25th, 2022, in Denver, Colorado. If you spent any amount of time with her, you know she was the matriarch of a wild bunch. The mother of five girls, grandmother to twelve, and great grandmother to eleven. She always made it a point to show up for those she cared for. She loved her family fiercely, and they her. Whether it was traveling to cheer competitions, various graduations, or sitting with her family watching the game show network, she was someone you could talk to. Sarah was the type of person who gave all that she had to her family and when that was gone, she found a little more and gave that too. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone that knew her that wasn't deeply impacted by her presence. She truly cared for others and had a heart of gold.
As a paralegal, she was as dedicated to the attorneys she worked with as she was to her family. She thoroughly enjoyed her work with various law firms over the years and continued it on into her 80s. Sarah was sharp, quick-witted, sassy, and never shied away from sharing her thoughts. We all loved that about her and know where her large brood gets it.
She never turned down a game of solitaire, a fuzzy navel, or an episode of Fresh Prince of Belair. She adored West Virginia (and disliked almost everywhere else), football (especially her Dallas Cowboys), and Garth Brooks. Sarah was the kind of person most people wish they were lucky enough to meet. Her family and friends will continue to cherish the many memories made with her over the years.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Alford; her daughter, Barbara Alford; her granddaughter, Aimee Hatcher; her grandson, Justin Hatcher; son-in-law, Jeff Nohava; and beloved Shih Tzu, Chloe. She will be deeply missed and survived by her daughters Kathy Hatcher, Janet Nohava, Sandra Alford, and Patricia Alford; her ten grandchildren and their spouses, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Her family will miss her deeply but are at peace knowing that she has moved on to be where she knew she would always end up. It seems fitting to end with her favorite saying to pass on to anyone in need of a wise word, "this too shall pass."
Her family would love your participation in celebrating Sarah's life and legacy. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 12th at 11am at the First Baptist Church in Aurora.
