It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" Harceg on January 2, 2020. She was born on December 22, 1934 in Haysi, VA to Charles Wood and Mary (Sifers). She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Harceg. Together they had two children; a son, David Harceg (Suzanne) of Southport, NC, and a daughter, Terri Thompson (Stephen) of Aurora, CO. Between them they gave her the joy of five grandchildren; Katie, Christopher, Amber, Matthew, and Deanna, as well as nine great grandchildren.
Betty was employed for many years in the food service industry with Hesteds, the Hilton Hotel, and the Aurora Public School system.
She was an excellent cook and enjoyed feeding her friends and family. Her short ribs were legendary. She was an animal lover and enjoyed various outdoor activities, such as gardening. Most of all, she enjoyed a fun day gambling at the Black Hawk casinos.
Betty was always willing to help anyone who needed it and she will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held on January 25, 2020 at the Newcomer East Metro Chapel. 190 Potomac Street, Aurora, CO at 11:00am with a reception to follow. She will be laid to rest at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Betty's name to either the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
