On behalf of my family, I'd like to thank everyone for being here today. Today we say praise, celebrate, and say farewell to the youngest child of Reverend Daniel and Rena Calhoun. Born the 30th of January 1948, Sharon Elaine Calhoun, youngest sister to Maxine Whittington (deceased) and Marynell Horton.
Sharon is survived by her only son Marcus (Cindy) Martin, Grandsons Jeremy Martin, Kyle Martin, and a host of Nieces, Nephews and Friends.
These moments are so important because where we sit now entails a confluence of experience from the threads trailing behind us. Although all our lives take on their own twists and turns, we have all gathered here today because of a particular and special thread that ties us all together. Beyond all else, we are here to remember Sharon for her virtues— her altruism, generosity, and expressions of love.
After her departure from Manual High School, Sharon began work as a Nurse's Assistant — a fitting occupation because the virtue Sharon claimed was that of a giver, caretaker, and healer. However, if you have a virtue, then she is yours, and not bound by the limitations of one's work. Whether it be her cooking, running a race for her pregnant friend on field day, or even going so far as to lend money she didn't have, Sharon's virtue demanded that she sustain the people she loved and was too exalted for the word "deserving."
Sharon was the epitome of a great Caretaker and Friend, though physically no longer with us she will live forever in our hearts and mind.
