In loving memory of Shirlee Anne Barnes Milan, age 87 of Denver.
Mother of Marcy (Bruce) Leonard, Leo "Chip" (Jeannie) Milan, Dennis (Sue) Milan, Gary (Bernelle) Milan, and Christopher Milan. grandmother to her 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Marian (George) Sandage and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Leo F. Milan Sr., brother Jack Barnes, and sister Joyce (Al) Palowski.
Shirlee was born in Denver to Thomas Wiley and Alta Mae (Rutherford) Barnes. She attended St. Vincent de Paul School for elementary school and St. Frances de Sales High School in Denver. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Denver
In 1951 she married Leo F. Milan in Denver Colorado. This union resulted in one daughter and four sons. Shirlee and Leo knew each other in childhood. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary but for the passing of Leo two days shy of their anniversary date. Shirlee and Leo enjoyed ballroom dance, long before it became popular as now.
Shirlee was devoted to her family. Together with her husband Leo they provided many educational, athletic, and recreational opportunities. Their children marveled at the efforts to encourage and attend games, meetings, & events. Her great Catholic faith guided her life. She was a steadfast supporter for education. Shirlee began her own college experience after having five children. Upon completion of her degree she initiated a career as a teacher with Denver Public Schools. She was a lifelong advocate of pursuing education.
Shirlee touched many lives during her lifetime. With her family present she passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019 at Swedish Medical Center. The family wishes to express their appreciation for all the medical care, kind words, thoughts, memories and prayers that have been extended the last several months.
