Shirley Becker

January 12, 1934 — November 5, 2021

Shirley Mae Voss came into this world on a Friday at 7:25 a.m. The date was January 12, 1934, and Warren and Alice Voss were still in their first year of marriage. Shirley grew up as a farm girl south of Ravenna in Nebraska. She was baptized as a baby, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith a few weeks after Easter in 1947. After graduating from High School (class of '51) in Kearney, Shirley received some additional training at the Teacher's College. She taught briefly that year in a one-room rural school.

Shirley married Roger Dean Becker at Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney, Nebraska on a red-hot Sunday, June 15, 1952. Her sister, Phyllis was at her side. Roger had enlisted in the Air Force the previous Summer, so the young couple made their first home in Denver near Lowry AFB. Their first apartment was at 12th and Vine St near their current one. They moved frequently around the country as they raised six children.

Shirley worked for Denver Public Schools in Food Service, until she retired. It can also be said that she served her Country - as the wife of a career Air Force soldier. She enjoyed coloring, drawing and painting, and loved spending time in the mountains. In life, Shirley was a kind, caring, gracious and unselfish woman of faith.

Shirley met Jesus early in the morning last Friday. The date was November 5, 2021, and she had listened to her family sing and hum "Jesus Loves Me." Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings, Gary and Phyllis, and her adult son, Ricky Lee. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Roger, and five children: Terry (Karen), Randy, Cathy (Gene), Peggy (Dana), and Nancy (Paul). Shirley was blessed with many dear friends, loving nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 12 at Mt Olive Lutheran Church in Aurora, CO. She will eventually rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
