On October 20, 2024, we lost a beautiful soul, at the age of 89. Shirley (Edwards) Davidson was born in Edgar County, Illinois, to Oscar “Mose” Edwards and Carmel (Cusick) Edwards. She was raised on a farm on the outskirts of Metcalf, Illinois, until she moved into town at the age of nine. Shirley attended Metcalf schools, most notably Young America High School, where she was in the first class to attend the new school all four years. Her class, comprised of 14 students, chose the name, mascot, and colors of the new school.
Shirley and her husband of 67 years, Jim Davidson, moved to Westminster, Colorado, shortly after getting married, bringing Jim’s mother, Zella, to live with them. Together they raised two children: their daughter, Cindy, married to Craig, and their son, Alan, married to Nita. Shirley loved spending time with her 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great- grandchildren.
As her children were growing up, Shirley was involved with them in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, dance and little league baseball. She was very active and supportive with Job’s Daughters, which she and Jim continued with their granddaughters. Shirley also enjoyed the outings with the Red Hat Society ladies and loved playing Mexican Train Dominoes with her friends.
Shirley passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, and four siblings.
Shirley Davidson’s internment is at Ft. Logan National Cemetery on November 19, 2024, at 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (nationalmssociety.org).
