Shirley Ann Shosky passed away at the age of 86 years old in Denver, Colorado on November 3, 2021. Shirley is survived by her five children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Shirley Ann was born on February 8, 1935 in Ojo, Colorado, a small coal mining community in Southern Colorado. Shirley Ann was the fourth of five siblings born to Catherine T. and James T. Gregory. As a small child, she contributed around the house by going to the creek for water until her family moved to Walsenburg, Colorado in 1942.
As a child, Shirley Ann was enrolled at St. Mary's Parochial School in Walsenburg. She continued her education at St. Mary's through high school, where Shirley Ann was elected the school's Homecoming Queen in 1952. Shirley Ann graduated in 1953 with superb recommendations from her teachers and began to work in the local theater in Walsenburg.
Shirley Ann met her husband Donald J. Shosky in 1954. Their friendship led to marriage and the couple was married in Walsenburg on May 14, 1955. Shortly after marriage, the couple set-off for Denver, Colorado to begin their new life together. Once settled in, Shirley Ann and Donald had five children (Donald Jr., Catherine, Sue, Daniel, and Sally). They eventually purchased a house in Westminster, Colorado and later moved to Southeast Denver in 1966 where they both remained until their deaths.
Shirley Ann worked many jobs throughout her life at the local theater, retail jobs, and later she formed a bond with fellow women working in the cafeteria at two local schools. Her greatest career accomplishment was when Shirley began to work as a Unit Secretary within the Intensive Care Nursery at Saint Joseph's Hospital where she retired in 1992 after working there for more than 10 years.
Throughout her lifetime, Shirley Ann loved children. She raised not only her own five children, but eight grandchildren as well. Shirley Ann also helped shaped many young people's lives in her community by opening her household to neighborhood children looking for a safe place to live while completing school or while working.
Shirley Ann's smile was always precious and her positive attitude lives within her family and friends forever.
In addition to the service on November 18th at Newcomer, Shirley Ann will be laid to rest in a private ceremony next to her husband, Donald John Shosky, at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
