Sophia Ann Hofer was born July 22, 1964 in Ulysses Kansas to Ray and Judy Mangels Hargrove. Her early years were spent in Colorado Springs and on her Grandpa and Grandma Bud and Thelma Helwig's farm in Kansas.
She loved horse back riding, go-cart racing and many camping trips and off road racing weekends with her mom, sister Monica, step father C.H. (Pop) Murphy, and step brothers Kelly, Mark, and Pat. She attended high school in Canon City and played basketball, and tennis and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She was involved with the youth group at FUMC and enjoyed several mission trips.
In 1986, Sophia met Warren and they were married on April 16, 1988 at the First United Methodist Church in Canon City. They lived in Loveland for a short time before moving to Aurora where they have lived since. Sophia and Warren were blessed with a beautiful baby girl on April 14, 1992 and named her Marlee Ann. She has been a constant source of pride and happiness for them, their families and friends.
She has always loved listening to music (mostly the 80s hair bands), and having fun with friends and family. Sophia was, as most people knew, a very outspoken and opinionated person. If she believed that something was important, she made sure everyone knew her opinion. She was especially passionate about standing up for her loved ones, whom she would have done anything for.
Sophia spent years working part time so she could be there for her daughter and husband's every need. Sophia has been a fine book keeper for several firms over the years. But her greatest joy outside the home was finding the church she has grown to love for nearly ten years. She volunteered numerous years in the GEMS ministry. More recently she spent more time with local outreach charities. Although her gift of encouraging the children to a closer walk with the Lord was as natural and beautiful as her smiling brown eyes.
Sophia is survived by her husband Warren and her daughter Marlee, Aurora CO, her mother Judy Cornell, Woodland Park CO, her sister Monica Mathews, Milbridge ME, her father Ray Hargrove, and her step brothers Kelly, Mark and Pat Murphy. Also by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, as well as extended family and friends.
By our human understanding her time here was much to short. But the unimaginable joy that her Lord Jesus is now surrounding her, should be a comfort to us until we get to hold her again.
