Stephen Charles Buckner

October 22, 1944 — April 10, 2024

Stephen Charles Buckner was born October 22, 1944, and passed away April 10, 2024. He was 79 years old. He was born in Kansas City Missouri.

Stephen lived with a beloved uncle and aunt when the family fell on hard times, but later reunited with his sister Ann Elizabeth, as they went to go live with their mother.

Stephen enlisted in the Army at Fort Leonard Wood in 1964 thru 1966. He then joined the Forrest service from 1967 -1969.

Stephen suffered from an un-diagnosed autism disorder and was often mis-diagnosed with other mental illnesses throughout his life. Finally, in 2014, at the perseverance of his sister, she was able to find a doctor who investigated Stephen's medical records and tests, and confirmed that he is and or was Autistic. However, Stephen was a high functioning autistic person, and was able to care for himself for much of his life. His autism made him highly intelligent but socially awkward. Stephen was able to teach himself how to read and right ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, and often would find joy in telling his niece how the museums had the translations of hieroglyphs incorrect.

Stephen lived in his apartment in Littleton Colorado until January 2024, when he contracted Covid from a neighbor while sharing the elevator. He passed away at an assistant living rehab facility that he had been transferred to, to gain his strength back, and was looking forward to going home.

Stephen is preceded in death by his brothers Rex, David, and Freddy, his Mother Georgia and father Milburn.

He is survived by his Sister Ann Elizabeth Penny, brother Jimmy Buckner, Neice Sarah Vogel and Nephew Robert Brown.

Stephen did not want a memorial service. In lieu of any flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Autism foundation.
