Steve Bandrowsky, Jr.
Steve Bandrowsky, Jr., age 87, was born on September 28, 1933 in Coalport, PA. He passed away on December 2, 2020, in his home, surrounded by his family and his beloved dog, Abby.
Steve resided in Littleton, CO with his wife of 64 years, Cecilia Bandrowsky. Steve and Cecilia have lived in Littleton for 36 years. Prior to that, they lived in Yorba Linda, CA, Naperville, IL, Hickory Hills, IL, York, PA, Philadelphia, PA, and Akron, OH.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Steve, Sr. and Mary (Kendzierski) Bandrowsky, and his brothers, Joey, Stanley, Joseph, and Thomas Bandrowsky, and his sisters, Lottie Bandrowsky and Blanche Shore.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Bandrowsky and his sons, Timothy (Rosalba) Bandrowsky, and Stephen (Cindy) Bandrowsky, and his grandchildren, Gina Bandrowsky, Jenny Bandrowsky, Laura Bandrowsky, Stephen Bandrowsky, and Christopher Bandrowsky, his great-grandson, Logan Wegner, and several nieces and nephews.
Steve grew up in Coalport, PA, and had a great childhood living on a farm, complete with horses, pigs, chickens, and his trusty mule, Katy. He liked to skip school to go fishing or sit in the graveyard and roast apples with his buddy. He loved the outdoors and he loved animals. He had a pet crow, Bobby, who would greet him on his way home from school. It wasn't always an easy life because a farm takes lots of work, but it was a good life and Steve grew to be a hard-working, responsible young man.
He joined the Navy Reserves when he was in high school and achieved the distinction of being chosen Honor man of his Company. Upon graduation from high school in 1953, he joined the Navy and earned the rank of Engine Man Third Class. While serving on the minesweeper, U.S.S. Sustain, he toured the Mediterranean and got to see what life was like outside his home town. He had many stories of his great adventures while serving overseas. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1959.
With the skills, he acquired while in the Navy, Steve launched a career in the trucking industry. He started his career as a diesel engine mechanic with Motor Cargo. He then moved to Consolidated Freightways and worked in maintenance and operations. While at Consolidated Freightways, he attended and completed Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program. He was President of American Natural Resources Freight Systems and retired as President of Arrow Transportation. He was highly regarded by co-workers and union members as a fair and effective manager. He always treated those who worked for him with respect and dignity, no matter what their position.
He spent his retirement years hunting, fishing, gardening, tinkering with any kind of engine, and spending time with his precious wife and family. He loved to impart his wisdom to his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to help them grow in appreciation for animals and nature. He loved to take them fishing and hunting and on other such adventures. He was actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, even being brave enough to teach several of them to drive. He was proud of the accomplishments of his children and his grandchildren. He was a man of faith and a member of the Light of the World Catholic Church. He was kind and generous and was known for his gentle spirit and firm handshake. He was truly a gentleman and a friend to many, always willing to help friends and strangers alike. All of the lives that he touched cannot be recounted here. He will be dearly missed. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all those he loved and influenced.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers from Dignity First Health at Home and nurses and staff from Elevation Hospice, for the kind and loving care they gave Steve during his illness.
