Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, of Arvada, Colorado. He passed away on September 23, 2023 at the age of 66 after a short battle with Leukemia. He was diagnosed in May following a routine blood test with no symptoms. He fought hard through 3 rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant. He and his family were very optimistic about his prognosis after a perfect match was found. Steve was looking forward to putting this behind him and having a bright future. Unfortunately, his treatment took a turn. God had other plans and took him quickly home on the first day of Fall, his favorite season.
Survived by his wife Cindy of 45 years, 4 children, Kristin, Lindsey, Michael and Ryan, 9 grandchildren all from Arvada, Colorado, and 2 siblings Peggy Applewhite from Bryson, Texas and Donald Brown from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Born October 18, 1956 in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he completed his K-12 schooling and graduated in 1975 from Nathan Hale High School. He attended 29th and Yale Church of Christ with his friend which then led him to Oklahoma Christian University where he met Cindy, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1978.
After college, Steve interviewed only one time and was hired by Western Electric in 1979, which then became Bell Labs, At&T, Lucent Technologies and Avaya where he worked until 2015. He worked on one of the first cell phones and has a patent in his name. He received his Master of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois. In 2015, he went to work with Kristin at Megan's Place, a respite care center for children with disabilities, where for the past 9 years he filled numerous roles both hands-on and managing.
Steve was a loving Christian, always putting others first. He was a man of great integrity, patience, hard work, perseverance, honesty, determination, and true grit. Although quiet, he set an example for others to follow in every aspect of his life. He was a strong fighter up to the very end, never giving up and always thinking of others - especially his family. His love for his family was beyond measure, and they were what he lived for each day. He always saw what was needed and did anything that had to be done.
Steve had an impact on everyone he met, and his legacy will live on. Steve is missed beyond words but remembered with so much love now and forever.
