Steven Charles Erie was born at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, Georgia on August 11, 1954. With his parents and sister, Steve lived in many different states in the US during his early childhood, until moving to Colorado at the age of 9. The remainder of his childhood was spent in Northglenn and Wheatridge. Steve lived his adult life in Lakewood, Denver and Wheat Ridge, Colorado. After graduating from Wheat Ridge High School in 1973, Steve worked at Gates Rubber Company for a few years, and then, followed his passion and worked as an auto mechanic for the rest of his career. He also took classes in technical school and college to improve his skills and knowledge. Steve had many hobbies, including drawing, painting, photography, astronomy, camping, biking, music and computers. At one time he played guitar in a band, and loved taking photos of nature. He loved animals, especially dogs and cats. his companion for many years was a cat named Snowball, who had been a stray that "adopted" Steve. After a 2 year battle with cancer, Steve passed away Thursday night, March 1, 2018, while in hospice in Wheat Ridge. He is survived by his mother, LaVonne James; sister, Susan Bargas; brother-in-law Al Bargas; Niece Alisha Bargas ( Michael Schaefer) and nephew Adam Bargas ( Megan Maust). He is predeceased by father Charles Erie, step-father David James, and step-brother Dan James.
