Steven Charles Hollowell, 65 of Aurora, passed away Wednesday October 4, 2023, after a long and
courageous battle with ALS. Steve passed away peacefully at home with his wife Bonnie by his side.
Steve was born June 16, 1958, in Denver, CO to Charles and Margaret Hollowell. He graduated from
Arvada West High School in 1976. After Steve graduated, he went on to get his A&P license from
Colorado Aero Tech. He graduated with his degree in 1977. Steve worked several years in general
aviation at Stapleton Airport and Centennial Airport. When the aviation industry declined, he went to
work for Public Service Company of Colorado where he worked in the parts department for over 12
years. Steve then had an opportunity to return to aviation by working for Frontier Airlines as an A&P
mechanic. He worked for them for over 11 years until airplane maintenance was moved. He then went
on to work at the GM Parts Warehouse until his retirement in 2020.
Steve met his wife Bonnie while working on a school play at Arvada West High School and they were
married for over 44 years. They made their home in Aurora and welcomed their daughter Kelsey in
August 1989. Steve became a grandpa when his grandson Elliott was born in August 2015.
Steve was a passionate man who loved his family and cherished his friends. He liked anything and
everything to do with cars and airplanes. He owned his first car, a 1973 red chevy Nova for 48 years and
was very proud of the engine he built for it. He especially enjoyed taking it to car shows. He enjoyed
bicycling and rode over 1000 miles the year before he got sick. He enjoyed volunteering at the Wings
Over the Rockies Museum where he helped to complete several restoration projects. He also enjoyed
reading (especially Steven King novels), coin collecting, model making, going to movies and traveling to
over 30 states.
Steve is survived by his wife Bonnie, daughter Kelsey Douglas (Stephen), grandson Elliott Douglas, sister
Sharon Wiedmaier (Tim), aunt Bev Burke (Gary), uncle Jim Gorman (Ann) and several nieces and
nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Margaret
Hollowell.
We will miss Steve greatly and we celebrate his life and that he's no longer suffering from ALS.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Wings Over the Rockies Museum.
