Susan Verne Ford

October 13, 1955 — June 5, 2021

Susan Verne Ford, beloved wife, devoted mother, loving Grammy, and faithful friend, passed into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the age of 65. Born in 1955 in Cheverly, Maryland, a portion of her childhood was spent in Herzogenaurach, Germany where her father, a US intelligence officer, was stationed. After trusting in Christ as her Savior, late in her teens, she studied history at Bob Jones University, where she met her husband Roy Ford, Jr. They were faithfully married 42 years until death suddenly parted them. Susan's life was defined by this verse: Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. (Proverbs 31:28)

Susan and Roy raised four children, homeschooling them for much of their childhood. The family moved a few times, living in Greenville, S.C., and Brunswick, Ga., before settling in Aurora, Colo.
Susan was especially proud of the veterans in her life, particularly her Army father, her Navy husband, and her Marine daughter and son-in-law. She displayed her "Marine Mom" sign with pride. She enjoyed sunflowers, collected figurines and teapots, and loved her pets, both dogs and cats. She had a special love and sympathy for abandoned and broken animals. She rescued multiple strays, sick animals, and pets that no one else wanted. Susan's most beloved pet, a Norwegian Elkhound, Emmy, was a lonely puppy locked in a dark garage by an inexperienced breeder.
She loved to read, soaking up history, theology, mysteries, and current events. She loved a wide range of music, filling her music library with everything from folk songs to Celtic to praise and worship, and much more. Coworkers spoke of her friendship, as she visited with them, asking about their families.
She is survived by her sister Martha Fitzpatrick and Martha's husband, Richard Fitzpatrick; husband Roy Ford, Jr.; four children: Felicia, April, Sarah, and Will; five grandchildren: Abigail, Benjamin, James, Atarah, and Inari; and six nieces and nephews.
Susan belonged to Calvary Aurora, where she participated in an active prayer group. She left behind a Bible that was well-worn, with underlining and notes throughout. Some of those underlined verses describe her character and her concern for the world around her:
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength….

Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you;
And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.
For the LORD is a God of justice….
He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry;
When He hears it, He will answer you. (Isaiah 30:15, 18, 19)
She had underlined Psalm 71:9, and beside it she wrote, "My most earnest prayer! Lord, this time is coming upon me." The verse says, "Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails."
Although a massive blood clot in her lungs took her to heaven before her loved ones were ready, that prayer was undoubtedly answered as she passed into the presence of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

The family requests that any donations in memorial of Susan Ford be sent to Woodside Baptist Church, 8500 East Alameda Avenue, Denver, CO 80247.
