It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Dell Holben announces her passing, on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at the age of 77 years. Susan will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 26 years, James Holben; her daughters Ellen Eglsaer and Andrea Randleman; brother Steve Broadie; her granddaughters Raeanne Rider and Kaitlyn Heibel, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Michael Broadie and Richard Broadie.
Susan was born in the house of Helen and William Broadie in Granger, Iowa and enjoyed her childhood there. After graduating high school, Susan attended the University of Kansas and Iowa State University. At the University of Kansas, one of her classmates was Wilt Chamberlain. Later, she obtained an Associate of Arts degree from Des Moines Area Community College and worked as an administrative assistant for several companies and federal agencies before her retirement.
Susan was a very talented artist. Not only did she work for several department stores and advertising agencies as a graphic artist, Susan pursued her love of art through photography and working with color pastels. She created many portraits, landscapes, still-life scenes and captured the beautiful Colorado nature through her photography and drawings. Susan was also a talented piano player who loved classical music, a joy passed down from her father.
She adopted Ellen and Andrea newborns and took on the tough but rewarding task of being a mother.
She moved to Colorado in 1990 to help take care of her mother. James met Susan before her move and decided to follow her there in 1992. They married on September 14, 1991 and had a long-distance marriage until James could move to Colorado.
She was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all.
Services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in her name to The Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritis.org).
