Syndey Preston Martinez

Sydney Preston Martinez went home with Our Lord Jesus Christ on August 29, 2023. He was at home with his loving wife Connie Martinez and immediate family by his side, Sydney was 80.

Syd was born on September 21, 1942, in Scott City Kansas to Mike and Aurora Martinez. Sydney met Connie in 1959, they married on March 19, 1963, and welcomed their first child soon after. Altogether they had five children: Michael, Marvin, Donnie, Michelle, and Jamie; and in 2022 they adopted their great-granddaughter, Jada.

In 1965 Syd graduated from Barber college and entered his lifelong career. He loved being a barber, he retired twice from it but always went back. After 46 years, in 2011 Syd opened his own shop, A1 Barber. It was his pride and joy, his own business, and he loved going every day. He ran it for 12 years until finally in 2020 he retired for the last time, after 55 fulfilling years.

Syd loved the mountains. He had Connie, his kids, and grandkids up there as much as he could. Fishing, picnics, or just drives, he was up in them thar hills. Red Rocks, LookOut Mountain, Buffalo Bill's Grave, George Town, Crystal Lake, Netherlands, all over. Black Hawk and Central City too, that was one of his all-time favorites. Syd also loved the Denver Broncos and tinkering in his garage or with his cars.

Sydney is survived by wife, Connie Martinez. Children, Michael, Marvin, Donnie, Michelle (Danny DeNava), Jamie and Jada. Grandchildren, Benjamin (Christie Glenn), Brandee (Christopher) Lopez, Vanessa, Robert (Gabby), Melissa, Amanda, and Kaila. Great-grandchildren, Andres, Joshua, Alondra, Xavier, Aviana, Roman and Havana Moon. Also, brother Claudie (Linda) and sisters Shirley, Mary June, and Edith.

Services will be held for Sydney at Saint Cajetan's Church, 299 S. Raleigh St. Denver, CO 80219 on Friday, September 15, 2023. We will pray the rosary at 10:30am, mass will start at 11:00am, followed by a celebration of life in the church hall at noon.
