The Reverend Dr. Donald L Helseth died February 6, 2021 at the age of 96 of COVID-19 and heart failure. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Reverend Emil and Mrs. Gladys (Wells) Helseth, his siblings Ralph (Evelyn), Raymond (Miriam) and Carolyn (Don) Leach, and his second wife, Patricia Starr Helseth. He is survived by his sister Emily (Floyd) Diehm, his sons Donald "Larry" (Laurie) Helseth Jr and Peter (Mary Lou) Helseth from his first marriage, and his grandchildren Sarah, Megan, Kimberly, and John. He is also survived by his stepchildren Lisa Starr, Amy (Dan) Moore and Stephen (Jennifer) Starr, and his dear friend, Ruth Cook.
Born in 1924 in Tekoa, WA, Don graduated from the Northwest Christian College and Union Theological Seminary. After ordination by his father, Don served as a minister at churches in Dallas, TX; Corvallis, OR; Birmingham, England; Phoenix, AZ, and finally in Denver, CO. He earned a Doctor of Theology degree from Iliff School of Theology in Denver in 1980. After retirement from the ministry, Don kept active by advocating for environmental protections and volunteering at Metro Caring into his late 80s. A memorial service will be held at Central Christian Church in Denver at a later date.
