HOBSON, THELMA "COUPY", 84, of Englewood, CO, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on October 25, 2006. She is survived by her Husband of 58 years, James A. Hobson; Five Sons: James J. (Linda) Hobson; Scott W. (Janice) Hobson; Gerry D. (Phyllis) Hobson; Keith E. (Kathleen Clancy) Hobson; Richard Hobson; 13 Grandchildren: Michael (Shelli) Jorstad; Andrea Jorstad; Jennifer (Mario) Montoya; Cindi (Daniel) Selvage; Amanda Hobson; Lauren Hobson; Brett Hobson; Nicholas Hobson; Tristan Hobson; Christian (Amanda) Hobson; Kathryn Hobson; Derek Hobson; Victoria Hobson; nine Great Grandchildren: Jake Jorstad, Taylor Jorstad, Michael Jorstad, Harley Jorstad, Autumn Montoya, Jeremy Miller, Colton Miller, Dylan Miller, and Aiden Hobson.
"Coupy" was born in Denver, CO to Hendrick and Martzen (Walinga) Couperus on August 6, 1922. Her parents settled in Denver after coming to the United States during WWI from Holland. She was preceded in death by her brothers Henry (Pauline) Couperus and Wallace Couperus, both of Denver.
She graduated in 1940 from Manual High School and from the Colorado Training School for Nurses (Denver General Hospital) as a Registered Nurse in 1943. She enlisted in the United States Army Nurse Corps following graduation and was stationed in the United States, England, and France during WWII, retiring in 1946 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
After the war, she returned to Denver and worked as a nurse specializing in psychiatric nursing. She met her future husband, Jim, while they were both working at Colorado General Hospital. Jim and "Coupy" were married at Galilee Baptist Church on July 10, 1948 in Denver. In 1952, the family moved to Englewood where they have resided for 53 years. She was a devoted wife and mother, raising five boys, and providing a warm atmosphere for the neighborhood children to gather and play. She enjoyed dancing, particularly square dancing, as an active member of the Whirl-a-Ways, Cast-Offs and Mountaineers square dance clubs. She also enjoyed attending and supporting the numerous sporting events and activities of her children and grandchildren.
Viewing will be Tuesday, October 31 at Newcomer Family Mortuary, West Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1st at Newcomer Family Mortuary West Chapel, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd. Burial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Area A at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service at the family home, 4670 S. Huron Street, Englewood.
