Thomas Lydon
September 24, 1942 — November 8, 2024
Denver
Tom was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to so many passed away on November 8, 2024, in Denver, CO, where he lived with his wife, Terry Lydon (Tibbs), surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 24, 1942, in Superior, Wisconsin, Tom was a captivating spirit who carved a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Emanating from a long line of railroaders, Tom worked 30 years and retired from the BNSF railroad after working a short time for the Superior Water and Light Co. Tom was proud of his work, which was evident in his technical degree in electronics and his remarkable achievement in holding electrical licenses in every state west of the Mississippi. With a knack for conversation, Tom was always eager to share stories and sought a smile from all who surrounded him. He often claimed, “I have friends I haven’t even met yet,” which exemplified his extroverted passion to talk to a stranger everywhere he went–especially if they were a vet.
Tom was also a proud veteran. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and, during the Vietnam War, was awarded the Bronze Star for preventing the loss of his platoon during an evening ambush mission. His service was a source of pride that helped shape the man he became, instilling a profound sense of duty, honor, and commitment to the community. He always stood firm for the flag and his fellow vets.
Beyond his professional life, Tom found joy in his various hobbies. He loved woodworking, carving, and tinkering around his shop, which allowed his creativity to live on through his creations. Fishing, shooting, and spending time with Terry and his old dog Tex in the mountains were also among his favorite pastimes. These hobbies brought him joy, but what he loved most was the opportunity to talk—a true conversationalist who enjoyed the company of others.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Terry; his sister, LouElla; his daughters, Charlie (Sara) and Tammy (Scott); his sons, TJ (Linda) and Dan (Denise); and his nine grandchildren and one great grandchild (who is on the way). Each family member carries with them a piece of his legacy—his humor, warmth, and unwavering love.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Bartley Lydon, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms in the next life. As we remember Tom, we celebrate a life lived fully, a heart that loved deeply, and a spirit that will remain forever vibrant in the memories of those he leaves behind. He will be greatly missed, yet his stories will live on through the many lives he touched.
