Thomas John Seaman

October 12, 1946 — January 12, 2025

Thomas John Seaman, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Tom was born in Roanoke, Virginia on October 12, 1946, the second child of Leland and Lucille Seaman (Weekly). Tom and his siblings Patricia (Smith), Barbara (Philip) and Jim Seaman spent their formative years in Batavia, Illinois. An early sign of his leadership potential and social charm came when Tom was voted President of his fifth grade class on the first day of school as a brand new student.

Tom attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where he joined ROTC, knowing that it would help him if he was ever drafted into the military. At Knox College, Tom was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and majored in Economics, graduating in 1968. It was at Knox that Tom met the love of his life, Lynn Serafini of Denver, Colorado. Tom and Lynn married on June 21, 1969 at Evans Chapel at the University of Denver while Tom was on a brief leave from the Army, returning the next day to field training at Fort Carson in Colorado. Due to a twist of fate, Tom was sent to Korea instead of Vietnam and served as an artillery officer, earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant before he was honorably discharged.

After the military, Tom went on to earn his law degree from the University of Denver in 1973 and began his law career with the firm that was then known as Flowers & Creamer, becoming a partner in 1976, when the name of the firm changed to Creamer & Seaman. He continued as a partner of successor firms for the next 40+ years. Even after officially retiring in 2016, Tom served as Of Counsel for Frank Patterson & Associates where he kept his fingers and mind in the legal field all the way up to the time of his death. Throughout his career, Tom was respected for his extensive expertise and success in defense of personal injury suits and insurance bad faith cases, including appearances before the appellate courts of Colorado.

Tom was not only an accomplished professional but also a devoted father to his three children, Lee (Lisa), Emily (Cesar) and Chris. He instilled in them the same values that guided him throughout his life: education, hard work, and the importance of family. Tom was the proud grandfather to five precious grandchildren, Kathryn, Mary Elizabeth and Anna Seaman and Lia and Emmett Rivera. Over the years, Tom and Lynn hosted weekly Sunday dinners as well as large extended family holiday meals, opening their home as the epicenter where family and friends gathered to celebrate, eat, laugh, and feel loved.

In his final months, Tom faced his battle with cancer with the same strength and courage he had displayed throughout his life. Though the end came swiftly, it was an opportunity for Tom and his loved ones to gather, sharing love and support until he found peace.

Tom is survived by his wife, Lynn Serafini Seaman; son, Lee Seaman and his wife Lisa (Boryla); daughter, Emily Rivera and her husband Cesar; son, Chris; sister Patricia Smith and her husband Terry; sister, Barbara Philip and her husband Bill; brother, Jim Seaman and his wife Mary Chavez; grandchildren, Kathryn, Mary Elizabeth and Anna Seaman, Lia and Emmett Rivera; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Philip and Mary Alice Serafini; dear friend Jeanne Jessup, and nine beloved nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Lucille (Weekly), father-in-law Philip Serafini Jr., mother-in-law Ruth Serafini (Lockett), sister-in-law Frosty Lee Serafini, and niece Amy Lynn McCallick (Smith).
