Timothy L. Sinkey

November 3, 1955 — October 29, 2024

Timothy L. Sinkey, born on November 3, 1955, in Ireton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 a few days short of his 69th birthday. Timothy married Lora Hofer on December 27th, 1981. They shared life's joys and sorrows for over 42 years.

Timothy’s life was grounded in his faith, a devotion he embraced in June 1972 at Explo '72, a Campus Crusade for Christ youth conference. His love for Christ was a guiding force, shaping his compassion, kindness, and dedication to serving others. He was a devoted father to his three sons Matthew, Daniel, and Jeremy, setting an inspiring Christian example of hard work, integrity, and faith in Christ, values he imparted to them throughout his life.

After graduating from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD, in 1974, Timothy attended the University of Sioux Falls, where he earned a degree in Physical Education with a minor in Mathematics in 1978. He spent his career as a dedicated educator, teaching middle and high school math and physical education across North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Colorado. Timothy’s commitment to his students extended beyond academics as a state-champion wrestling, baseball, and football coach. He inspired and uplifted countless young people with his positive values and infectious love for learning and competition.

An avid sports enthusiast, Timothy was a loyal fan of the Colorado Rockies, Minnesota Twins, Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, Green Bay Packers, and Denver Broncos. His passion for sports extended to the field as a well-known umpire at both the high school and collegiate levels. With a reputation for fairness, knowledge, and a true love of the game, he was a respected and familiar presence among athletes, coaches, and fans alike.

Timothy also had a deep love for photography, capturing the beauty of nature, the joy of weddings, and the energy of sports events through his lens. His photos were a reflection of his appreciation for life’s special moments, and he found great fulfillment in preserving memories for others.

Timothy is survived by his wife, Lora Sinkey (Hofer); his son Matthew and daughter-in-law Jayme Sinkey of Conroe, TX, along with grandchildren Emma and Luke; his son Daniel and daughter-in-law Kelly Sinkey of Germantown, WI, along with grandchildren Mason, Mavis, and Margaret; and his son Jeremy Sinkey of Aurora, CO. He is also survived by his brother Mark (Kathy) Sinkey and sister Julie (Rick) Schuer of Sioux Falls, SD, as well as many other family members and dear friends. He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Art and Lorna (Jepson) Sinkey, who preceded him in death.
