Velma Williams

November 5, 1936 — March 20, 2020

"Velma Mae Williams, 83 of Lakewood, passed away on March 20th, 2020. She was born in Kansas on Nov. 5th, 1936 to John & Bessie Stafford and moved to Idaho as a young girl. She graduated from New Plymouth High School in 1954.

At the age of 19, she met the love of her life, Dale Williams, on a blind date bowling with friends. They were inseparable and became husband and wife on June 9th, 1956. They later moved to Denver for Dale's career, where Velma also joined the team at Mountain Bell Telephone Company. There, they were blessed with their daughter Suzie, and Velma became a stay-at-home mother. They attended Denver First Assemblies of God, where Velma was very active in women's ministries.

Whether it was gardening, cooking, crafting or studying God's Word, Velma was never standing still. Velma also enjoyed hiking, hosting game nights and traveling with Dale, as well as spending time with her daughter and granddaughter Heather.

Velma and her husband played a key role in founding Grace Community Church (now Summit), where she led the Women's Ministries Department, teaching girls about the Love of God and mentoring countless women in her community. Velma also devoted her time to coordinating a multitude of fellowship gatherings and charitable events. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Velma is survived by her brother Jim Stafford, her daughter Suzie Williams and her granddaughter Heather Bendele, as well as many other beloved family members and friends. This incredibly strong and devoted woman was a blessing to all who met her and will be greatly missed. There will be a family ash-spreading ceremony to honor Velma's Life in Estes Park at a later date."
