Vera M. Smith was born in Berlin, Germany on June 18, 1927. She was the only child of Arthur and Ella Kunze.
Vera spent her childhood developing a very independent spirit. When she was stricken with polio at the age of 5, it was this spirit along with the love and support of her parents that would see her through. Another important event in her life was WWII. She spent her formative school years (Ages 12-18) during this time. Throughout her life she would share many stories about her war experiences. It was in school that she developed a love of languages. She mastered the English language very quickly and after the war got her first job working for the American Government in Germany. This began her love for all things American. Marriage to W.J. Smith in 1956 brought her to America and she soon became a proud American citizen.
After her retirement, she joyously indulged her love for the beach, lakes, mountains and travel.
She is survived by her husband W.J., Children: Walter (Tina Booze), Sylvia Crawford (Ted Montgomery), Gerald (Gail Mundhenk- Smith), Bernard (Iris Banze-Smith), Ronald (Theresa Hamm-Smith), Grandchildren: Christopher, Jay-Neen, Kaylene, David, Charles, Christina, Gerald Jr., Alexander, Jackson and several beloved great grandchildren; lifetime friends: Darlene Padden-Smith; Luisa Smith-Kenny.
