Verna Lee Marley
September 5, 1930- August 11, 2006
"LOVE BEARS ALL THINGS, BELIEVES ALL THINGS, HOPES ALL THINGS, ENDURES ALL THINGS. LOVE NEVER ENDS." I Cor 13:7-8
Verna Lee Granneman was born in Corvallis, Oregon and was raised with three older sisters. She graduated from Corvallis High School, and met her husband of 43 years, Don Marley, while taking piano lessons. They were married on June 25, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church in Corvallis. They were blessed with three sons, Brian, Kent, and Clark.
After their marriage, they lived in Eugene, Oregon, Elmhurst, Illinois, and Ajo, Arizona, before settling in San Rafael, CA in 1956. Verna Lee spent her time raising her family and supporting her husband, as well as volunteering in various church and community capacities. In 1972, the family moved to Arvada, CO, and Verna Lee worked as a Teacher's Aide at Weber Elementary School for several years.
Music was a big part of Verna Lee's life. She sang in the choirs of Zion Lutheran Church in San Francisco and Trinity Lutheran Church in San Rafael. She and the family joined Peace Lutheran Church in 1972, where she sang in the choir and also the Lutheran Chorale. Highlights of her musical life were international concert tours with the Lutheran Chorale, and singing duets with Don.
Verna Lee has been continuously active in Peace Lutheran Church as well as the Lutheran Medical Center Foundation, National Park Service Retirees, Red Hat Society, and the church office. If there was any volunteer work to be done, you could be sure that her name was on the list. Only her being called home could slow her exuberant, and often times humerous, service. She will always be remembered for her speaking renditions of "Prinderella and the Cince" and "The Pree Little Thigs." She has enjoyed the blessing of a special friendship, travel and the volunteer help of Herm Wall over the past 9 years. Verna Lee will always be remembered for the calming, peaceful, and caring presence. One visit to her home, or even one genuine conversation, and you were no longer a stranger but a friend.
Verna Lee is survived by her three sons, Brian and wife, Diane, of Smithtown, NY; Kent and wife Tab, of Yuma, AZ; Clark, of Westminster, CO; and best friend and companion, Herm Wall, of Arvada, CO. She also enjoyed spending time with her nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Verna Lee will be laid to rest along side her family and her husband Don at the Lutheran Cemetery in Corvallis, Oregon.
