Vincent Paul Clarkson 1936 - 2021
85, of Littleton, peacefully passed in hospice at Applewood Our House on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 6:30 AM. Vincent battled valiantly against the ravages of late-onset Alzheimer's which eventually took his life.
He joins his mother, Mildred (Leddy) Clarkson, father William Clarkson, and brother James Clarkson in Heaven. He is survived by his nephew, Michael J. (Julie A. Fioravanti) Clarkson.
He leaves behind his beloved cat, Boots, who Vincent befriended and remained by his side until his passing. Boots has been adopted to a trusted friend.
He was born on July 4, 1936, to the late William and Mildred (Leddy) Clarkson in New York City (Manhattan Borough).
Vincent's mother referred to Vincent as her "firecracker baby", owing to his Independence Day birthday. It stuck throughout his life because of his independent streak – much like the country whose birthday he shared.
Vincent had an inquisitive mind – always a seeker of knowledge. He voraciously read until he was no longer able. But books were always a part of his life and passion. He loved their stories. He loved how the stories transported him to interesting places and how the stories' characters touched his life.
He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado and his Master's degree from the University of Southern California. His love of English was shown through his work as a journalist, writing for local papers in the Denver Metropolitan Area – sharing the stories and knowledge throughout his chosen hometown.
Always the adventurer, he spent several years in Caracas, Venezuela, and touring the world when he was able.
He also loved theatre and was a performer in many local productions. He loved the joy that a performance could offer others. He once said, "Stories cannot touch the soul until you give them a voice." That is what he loved about his acting and writing.
A private interment will be held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Middle Village (Queens), New York, on August 18, 2021.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
