Walter Evan Obrecht

December 15, 1933 — June 26, 2020

Walter Evan Obrecht, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 26th, at his home in Aurora, Colorado. Walter's wife, Betty, preceded Walter in this journey on May 29th, 2018.

Walter was born on December 16, 1933, in Denver, Colorado to Evan and May Obrecht. He had two sisters and two brothers, Maurine and Mary Lou, and two brothers, Steve and John. Walter and Maurine grew up on their property which is now Cherry Creek Reservoir, and Mary Lou, Steve, and John grew up at 160 Hwy. 83. After graduating High School in 1952, Walter married Betty Sanders in 1954. Both Walter and Betty were assured of their faith in Jesus Christ, sharing a deep love for the Lord.

Walter began his US Naval career in 1956. Their life adventure continued over the next 20 years with Betty and Walter living in Fallon, Nevada, Fort Collins, Colorado, Opa-Locka, Florida, Brooklyn, New York, Toms River, New Jersey, Jacksonville, Florida, the Los Angeles area, California, San Diego, California, and then finally Dallas, Texas. Walter retired from the US Navy in 1976 and the family moved back to the Denver, Colorado area. During this continental migration, Walter and Betty had two sons, Walter (Miami, FL) and Richard (Brooklyn, NY), and a daughter, Naomi (Toms River, NJ).

Everywhere they moved, they became involved in a local church, serving Jesus wherever they went. That continued upon their return to Colorado, with Woodside Baptist Church being where they served faithfully until Betty became too ill to continue.

Walter is survived by his two sons, Walter and Richard, his daughter Naomi, daughter-in-law Christel, five grandchildren, Hannah, Rebecca, Moriah, Brittany, and Walter, a son-in-law, Matthew, four (soon to be five) great-grandchildren, Louella, Reese, Mallory, (Brynn), and Sawyer, two sisters and two brothers, Maurine, Mary Lou, Steve and John, and many nieces and nephews. The list of friends made along the way would be too numerous to list.
