Walter Ray Swazer, born on June 29, 1941, in Wisner, Louisiana, to King David Sr. and Laura Lou Swazer, peacefully passed away on September 21, 2023 at the age of 82. Walter was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend whose memory will forever be cherished.
From a young age, Walter displayed a determination that would define his life. He was a staunch advocate for the underdog, always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His unwavering support and encouragement provided hope to many who had lost it. Walter's tenacity inspired others to stand up for what they believed in, never backing down from a challenge, no matter how daunting.
In 1963, Walter married the love of his life, Ethel Swazer (aka Lil), and together they built a life filled with love and joy. Family was the cornerstone of Walter's life, and he showed his love through both his actions and his words. Walter and Ethel created a loving family and home that was the heart of countless gatherings and celebrations.
Walter had a passion for fishing, hunting, working with his hands, and cooking with Lil, which he pursued with dedication and enthusiasm. Whether it was woodworking or smoking exotic meats, he found solace and happiness in these pursuits. His energy was infectious, and he shared his passions with family and friends, often introducing them to new experiences.
A faithful and devoted member of Morning Star Baptist Church, Walter's presence in the pews each Sunday was a source of inspiration. He was a man of deep conviction, whose unwavering belief in the Lord was felt by all who knew him.
Walter's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He is preceded by 7 siblings and survived by Luetta Bourn, Rev. Hardy Swazer and Laura Howard. He leaves behind a legacy of boundless love for his children Carl Davis, Lisa Renee Swazer Smith, Tonya Milligan, and Thadus Swazer; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who will continue to carry his legacy of love, kindness, and generosity.
Walter Ray Swazer, affectionately known by many as Pops, will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him...may he rest in eternal peace.
