Wayne David Walters

November 14, 1958 — November 29, 2020

Wayne David Walters, 62, of Denver Colorado, passed away November 29, 2020.

Wayne was born November 14, 1958 in Denver Colorado. Adopted son of Edward L Moller (deceased) and Kathleen Cook Moller.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne who he was married to for 40 years. They resided in Denver Colorado for the entirety of their marriage. They raised two children, Karen Walters, and David Walters (Brandy). He is also survived by two grandchildren, Charlotte Elizabeth and Lillian Grace, as well as four sisters and two brothers (including many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.) And a host of friends.

Wayne loved spending time with and doing activities with family, friends, and church families (both Corona Church in Denver and Lakeview Pres in St Petersburg.) He was a loving husband, devoted father and a doting "Papa" who loved his two granddaughters with a passion.

Wayne was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver, CO, and studied Criminal Justice at Metropolitan State College. Wayne served as a Deputy Sheriff with the City and County of Denver from 1980 – 1986, working at the Denver County Jail. He then served as a Denver Police Officer from 1986 until his retirement in 2012, completing 25 years of service with the DPD.

In his time as a Denver Police Officer, Wayne primarily worked in District 4 and District 6. He spent the first half of his career in district 4 and while there he served one action-packed year on the Vice Bureau! While at District 6 he worked on the Motorcycle Mall Unit and then on the downtown bicycle unit. He very much enjoyed the people interaction in Downtown Denver as well as his relationships with other officers. He finished his career in the Property Bureau. During his vocation he received two lifesaving awards among other commendations. He also worked off-duty for the Denver Broncos and also for the Colorado Rockies for several years when they were first franchised in Denver

Wayne was an avid weightlifter in his earlier years. He loved sports – watching and playing – mostly football and basketball, but he got interested in baseball in later years. He also very much enjoyed camping, fishing, and mountain biking. Wayne, and his wife Suzanne, and their children traveled extensively and as often as possible. In early years it was via cross-county road trips with the tent trailer, and as they could afford more, it was cruises, charter sailing, and international trips. Wayne always loved exploring new places and cultures.

Wayne became an avid sailor. He and Suzanne took sailing lessons in the 90's receiving their American Sailing Association certifications for offshore sailing. From there they would charter sailboats in various places (mostly in the Florida Keys and British Virgin Islands) island hopping with friends and family along.
Wayne bought his first sailboat in 2008 which he kept at a marina on Pueblo reservoir. He realized his dream of living on a sailboat in 2012 after he retired. He sold the Colorado boat and bought a 34' Beneteau sailboat in St Petersburg, Florida which he kept at the Harborage Marina. He was able to live aboard his boat for four years before his health declined. Suzanne enjoyed flying down to stay with him on the boat every few weeks as work allowed.

Wayne is spending Christmas with Jesus this year and always. While he will be sorely missed on this earth, heaven rejoices in receiving a new soul and angel. He is once again whole.
We take comfort in this scripture from Isaiah: "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31
