William Axton

Beloved husband of Janice. Military Honors will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Ft. Logan Cemetery, Staging Area Area "A", 11:00 a.m.
Lieutenant Colonel William S. Axton retired after 39 years of honorable service as the Director Resource Management, Colorado Air National Guard, Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, Colorado. Lt Col Axton joined the Army Air Corps in August 1944. He served in the 368th Fighter Group, 395th Fighter Squadron flying the P-47 in the European Theater. During World War II he earned a European African Middle Eastern (EAME) Theatre Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, World War II Victory Medal and EAME Campaign Medal flying over 1,000 hours. He joined the Colorado Air National Guard in July 1951 as a traditional guardsman. Lt Col Axton's duties have included pilot, base comptroller, financial manager, deputy base commander, and supervisory logistics management specialist. He is a command pilot with over 3,600 flying hours in multiple aircraft.
