William "Bill" Truett McGregor, 93, of Thornton, passed away December 24, 2017.
He was born June 4, 1924 in Abilene, Texas, the son of Harry and Eunice (Mosley) McGregor.
He was a graduate of Abilene High School High School. He graduated from Texas A&M with his Bachelors degree and received his Masters Degree from West Texas State University in Canyon, TX.
On June 14, 1942, he married Freda Smith.
He honorably served in the US Army during World War II in CO K, 410 Infantry Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant where he received two Bronze Stars, one for Valor and one for Meritorious Service. The 410th Infantry Regiment received a Presidential Unit Citation.
Bill "Truett" was a member of the Lions Club. He was also a former member of First Baptist Church in Broomfield where he was Chairman of the Deacons, Treasurer and served in many other capacities for the church. Bill "Truett" also belonged to Phi Kappa Phi Educational Fraternity. He was also the Randall County, Texas Surveyor in his earlier years. He was formerly Director of Personnel and also a Manager of the Physical Plant at CSU. Bill "Truett" helped start the Colorado Community Colleges and Occupational Education System where he also retired as the Vice President.
Bill "Truett"enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. He will be remembered as a Jack-Of-All-Trades and could do almost anything. He never sat still and was constantly busy. Bill "Truett" was a woodworker and carpenter in his spare time. He also enjoyed playing cards and his trips "up the hill." Bill traveled extensively with his family over the years, both traveling within the US and abroad to Europe to trace his path from his Army days during World War II. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family.
William is survived by Daughter, Cynthia Dianne (John) Steel of Thornton, CO; Two Sons, Robert J. (Karen) McGregor of Colorado Springs, CO and William Fred (Beth) McGregor of Ft. Collins, CO; Brother, Jimmie Ray (Barbara) McGregor; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Freda M. McGregor; Father, Harry H. McGregor; Mother, Eunice Novia McGregor; Brother, Mayson Dennis and Sister, Emily Howard.
