William J. "Bill" Erkman, 87, of Denver passed away June 20, 2008 after a short illness.
Bill was born on December 8, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised and educated there.
On December 7, 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII as an Engineer, working in Burma and Africa. He also worked on the construction of the Leda Road in India.
In 1945 he married the former Miss Emma Homan and they shared 63 years of marriage together.
Bill was an Engineer and Machinist. He worked for the Nabisco Company for 20 years and the United States Treasury Department, working for 17 years at the Denver Mint.
Bill will be remembered as a kind and loving man who loved the outdoors. He was the first property owner in Granby, CO and built five cabins on Bussey Hill. He enjoyed spending time at his mountain cabin, traveling, fishing and camping with his wife.
He will be fondly remembered as the "Candy Man" "and "Sheriff Bill" by the neighborhood kids, as he always had a treat for them and made sure that everything was in order in their neighborhood.
Bill will be missed.
