William Patrick Medcalf was born August 13, 1948, in Bremerton, WA. Bill received his high school education in Paulsbo, WA. He joined the Marines in 1968 after which he worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA. He then worked for the US Naval Torpedo Station in Keyport, WA. At an after-work gathering at Keyport, Bill met Lois, who also worked at the Naval Torpedo Station for Honeywell. Bill and Lois hit it off right away and were married within three weeks. They celebrated 50 years in August proving that love at first sight is a real thing!
After a few years they found themselves back in Minnesota where Bill worked for Teledyne in Fairmont and Lois worked at the Johanson Law Office in Winnebago. After living in southern Minnesota for a few years they moved to Minneapolis - Bill worked at FMC, a company which tested missile launchers for the US Navy and Lois went back to work for Honeywell. Bill was later hired by the US Navy at the FMC location. After several years he went to work for Honeywell in Material Management in Plymouth, MN. Bill was recognized with many awards and promotions, retiring from Honeywell after 30 plus years as a government contract attorney.
Bill's education included a bachelor's degree at Augsburg College and a master's degree at St. Thomas, both in Minneapolis, as well as a degree in government contracts from Wright Patterson Air Force Base and several government certifications.
Bill loved cool, fast cars and auto racing. He raced his '65 Ford mustang at various racetracks in the Pacific Northwest in Washington. He was also a long-time member of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) where he served as various race officials including Official Race Steward-meaning he was in charge of all the cars on the track. Bill and Lois spent many vacations and trips at racetracks across the country, many of which were in the Denver area. They developed a love for Colorado and purchased a second home. In Colorado they could experience the same four seasons like Minnesota without all the drama of the blizzards so typical of the cold cold winters! After Bill's retirement they decided to move to Denver full time. Since fall of 2020 Bill enjoyed his many walks around the neighborhood where everyone was so friendly and welcoming.
Other hobbies included photography, model railroading, building model cars, planes and ships as well as woodworking, landscaping, gardening, and fishing. Bill also contributed his woodworking talents to Habitat for Humanity. He volunteered for the Humane Society including Pose your Pet with Santa. Bill was a great Santa!! His favorite cars were his Chevy Corvette and Ford Shelby Mustang which he still owned.
Bill was a very religious person. He was a member of the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bremerton, WA where he was Confirmed in 1974. He was also a member of' the Ascension Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN. Continuing in his faith, he was a member of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Aurora, Colorado where a small family memorial service was held on Saturday, November 18th with Pastor Tom Engelbrecht officiating.
Bill's health deteriorated in the past few months resulting in his passing on to his eternal home on November 12, 2023. Bill is survived by his wife, Lois, his sisters Christine, Colleen, Cathy, Lisa, and brother Thomas as well as several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Douglas and one sister Susan.
