William D. Schoening

October 11, 1938 — April 14, 2022

William "Bill" Schoening was a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He passed away on April 14, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer's, his best friend and wife, Risë was by his side.

Bill was always an avid outdoorsman. You could find him enjoying the great outdoors through camping, fishing, trap shooting, and hunting or in more recent years simply spending time tending the yard and gardening. Bill loved animals and enjoyed team roping, raising horses and watching his daughter Danielle show horses. But to him, the most precious time was enjoying & making memories with family and friends.

Bill was a creative craftsman and carpenter. His greatest project was the house he spent 5 years gutting and rebuilding in Perry Park. It was his masterpiece and still stands beautifully today. Always good with his hands, Bill was a certified master welder where he helped erect many of the I-25 and C-470 overpasses, multiple skyscrapers and office buildings in Denver and throughout Colorado as well as working on the Eisenhower Tunnel. He rose to the rank of Master Mason in his 30's having attended the Littleton Masonic Lodge. Bill was also a US Army veteran; he loved his time serving as an M103 Tank driver in the 1960's.

Bill was born in Genoa, Colorado, in October 1938, to the late Mildred (Smith) Schoening and Edward Schoening. He spent his childhood in Genoa, CO, Idaho Springs, CO, and many years in Denver, CO. Bill was preceded in death by his father Edward, mother Mildred, two sisters, Beatrice Stephens (Delbert), and Linda Schoening, infant brother Edward, two sons Rory Lee Schoening, and William Rance Schoening, and daughter Joanne Gesink. Bill is survived by his brother Thomas Stephens (Sharon), his daughters Danielle Goad (James), Leslie Daly (Brian), Diana Dargen, Laura Fells, Susan Morris (Duane), son Mark Fells, the love of his life and wife of 33 yrs. Risë Schoening. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren James Goad, Jordan Goad, Jacqueline Lahoda (Brannon), Jesse Buettner, Kathryn Ryan, Jacob Williams (Malia), Madelyn Tillman (Dan), John Stearns (Krissy), Marie Daly, Emma Dargen, Liam Dargen, Jennifer Bicket, Joseph Diemer, Sara Diemer, Hayden Fells, and Taylor Fells, and six great grandchildren: Rylee, Ellee, Caleb, Quinley, Bella and Alexandra. In addition, Bill leaves behind several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Those that knew and loved Bill will never forget his smile, dry humor, undying love and devotion to family, caring personality, and love of his animals. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the simple things. We will all remember him for his unwavering ability to love so freely, that wonderful twinkle in his eye and his sweet smile. He will be greatly missed by us all.
