Wilma Jeanne Clayton

January 13, 1929 — April 1, 2023

Wilma Jeanne Clayton, 94, passed away Apr 1, 2023 at Caley Ridge Assisted Living Facility in Englewood CO, after having lived a long and loving life.

Wilma was born in Emporia, KS to Frank and Hattie Pennington, being the youngest of three siblings. She attended Emporia State College where she met her future husband of 59 years, Howard Clayton, when he became her accompanist during her vocal classes. They went on to share a lifelong love of music and were always involved in church and community activities.

Wilma and Howard have two surviving children, Caren Halinkowski of Colorado Springs CO, Curtiss Clayton of Los Angeles CA and a granddaughter, Jennifer Halinkowski of Grand Junction, CO. She is preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a grandson.

Wilma was a very family oriented person and took every opportunity to get together for family reunions and visits. She never forgot a relative's birthday or special occasion and could recite all names and ages of more distant family members. Having outlived other relatives, she became the matriarch of the family.

Wilma was very outgoing and made many friends in the numerous communities she and Howard lived in during their lives. She will be greatly missed by her immediate family as well as relatives and friends throughout the country.

A visitation period will be held between 11a. and 2p., Saturday, Apr. 8th at Newcomer West Funeral Home for family and friends.
