Winifred was born on December 23, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She lived in Indianapolis and California before coming to Colorado with her husband Charles and her two sons, Daniel and Mark. After graduating from Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, she went on to work as a secretary for a president of a bank, also as a proofreader for the Indianapolis Star Newspaper, and was a secretary for three different archery clubs.
Winifred met Charles in December 1945, while ice skating at a local pond in Indianapolis, got engaged in February 1946 and was married on August 2nd, 1946. After settling in Indianapolis and having Daniel and Mark, Winifred and Charles started a business making beautiful knives. She designed the handles and Charles made the blades. Together they made these unique, one of a kind, beautiful knives and sold them. They also enjoyed building model ships and planes together.
After moving to Evergreen, Colorado they had Cynthia and Nancy. She loved living in the mountains. It wasn't surprising to hear how brave she was when hearing stories of how she use to chase mountain lions off of the roof and scare bears away. One day Dan and Mark had caught a little rattle snake and gave it to Cynthia to play with, Cynthia put the snake in her mouth like a stick, running it back and forth sideways in her mouth. Mother came out of the house and saw what Cynthia was doing, grabbed the snake away from Cynthia and snapped the neck off of the snake. She proceeded to chase after Dan and Mark down the road with a broom. They got up in a tree and stayed there until Dad came home late that night. Needless to say, they never did that again.
They decided to move to Northglenn thinking the schools would be better and to give their sons the opportunity to play baseball.
Winifred enjoyed mountain climbing, fishing, archery, flying, travel, ballet, classical music, painting, and of course ice skating. She played the organ, harmonica and could whistle like Bing Crosby.
Our wife, mother and grandmother will always have a special place in our hearts and will be missed everyday. Her kind and gentle spirit shined brightly through everything she did. We look forward to being reunited with her and Dan upon the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Favorite Verses:
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
The Excellent Woman
Proverbs Chapter 31 : 10
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price [is] far above rubies.
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
She perceiveth that her merchandise [is] good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household [are] clothed with scarlet.
She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing [is] silk and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
She maketh fine linen, and selleth [it]; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
Strength and honour [are] her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue [is] the law of kindness.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praiseth her.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
Favour [is] deceitful, and beauty [is] vain: [but] a woman [that] feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
