Woody Michel

September 3, 1945 — September 28, 2024

Woodrow J. Michel was born on Sept. 3, 1945, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

Growing up on a farm in Egg Harbor New Jersey, and wanting more out of life, he joined the U.S. Air Force out of high school and served for 21 years. He was a Vietnam War veteran and was there for the Tet Offensive in 1968. He returned to the U.S. and worked in secure communications and logistics helping to open the Aerospace Data Facility at Buckley Air Force Base. Woody viewed his service as something to be honored and memorable. He would thank active-duty service members and veterans for their service when he saw them in uniform or wearing a veteran hat.

Upon retiring from the Air Force, he worked in data processing and eventually created his own mailing business, which he ran for over 20 years. He valued the environment and worked to recycle computer components and keep them out of landfills.

He had a quick wit and loved to have fun with others. Not everyone appreciated his sarcastic New Jersey humor, but everyone who loved Woody learned that he never meant to be hurtful or mean and could always take as good as he gave. His sense of humor reminded everyone not to take life too seriously.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharrie, son Scott, sister Judy, and brother Daniel. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his son, Tom; daughter-in-law, Shannon; stepson, Stephen; daughter-in-law, Michelle; and three grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, and Ellie.

Woody’s final internment was at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Monday, November 25.
